What happened?

A cyber incident occurred at Melland High School. We have investigated the nature and extent of the incident and immediately secured our systems to prevent further attack.

Has my personal data been compromised?

We have conducted an initial assessment of the incident and have contacted individuals whose personal data we believe may have been affected. If you have not been contacted, this means we currently have no indication that your data was compromised. However, if further information comes to light, we will reach out to affected individuals directly with guidance and support. 

What should I do if I’m concerned?

How long will it take to get a response?

We aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours during working hours.

Is it safe to continue using school systems?

We are working with cybersecurity professionals to ensure all systems are secure. Any necessary precautions or changes will be communicated directly to staff, pupils, and parents/carers.

Will you provide updates?

Yes. We will continue to update this page as more information becomes available.

What types of data may have been affected?

We have completed a thorough assessment of the incident and identified the types of personal data that may have been affected. Risk assessments and impact analysis has been carried out, and we have contacted individuals where we believe their data may have been compromised. If you have not been contacted, we currently have no indication that your data was affected.

Are you working with external experts?

Yes. We are working closely with cybersecurity specialists and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and strengthen our systems.

Will this affect school operations?

At present, school operations are continuing as normal. If any changes are necessary, we will communicate them directly to affected parties.

What steps are being taken to prevent this from happening again?

We continually review and enhance our cybersecurity measures across all schools in the Trust, including staff training, system upgrades, and policy reviews and will continue to do so.

Should I change my passwords or take any action?

As a precaution, we recommend changing passwords for any school-related accounts and being vigilant for suspicious emails or messages. We will provide further guidance if necessary. 

How will I know if my child’s data is affected?

If we identify that your child’s data has been impacted, we will contact you directly with details and support.

Is this incident being reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)?

Yes. We are complying with all legal and regulatory requirements, including reporting the incident to the ICO, who are supporting us on this matter.
